Introduction to this Regulated First Aid at Work Course

This TQUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) is a Regulated course and is a requirement in most circumstances under The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.

Why enrol on the Regulated First Aid at Work Course?

Having this vital skill set within the workforce is crucial, as it ensures that employees’ health and welfare are accommodated. Additionally, it is a legal requirement in most workplaces, which should be highlighted during a a first aid needs assessment. This assessment also determines the provisions necessary for the first aiders in their specific workplace.

First Aid at Work Overview

The duration for the Regulated First Aid at Work Course is 3 days. This covers a variety of topics such as the roles and responsibilities of the First Aider; assessing an incident, recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness. Furthermore, it involves assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness, chest injuries, spinal injuries and anaphylaxis. The qualification is assessed via on-going oral and/or written questioning and practical demonstration.

The minimum contact hours for this qualification, excluding breaks should be a minimum of 18 hours, over a 3 day period.

Blended Learning

In May 2016 the HSE and Awarding Organisations announced that computer-based blended training is now allowed for all workplace first aid courses. You can now become a fully qualified First Aider in the workplace, with only one day of classroom training after completing the relevant online blended “Part 1” modules. This reduces your classroom training time and costs with the online blended video-based course, which you can learn at your pace, saving progress as you go.

The online blended “Part 1” will need to be competed prior to attending the classroom “Part 2” of the course. You will receive a dedicated online login to complete the e-learning shorty after your booking has been made.

To clarify, this blended First Aid at Work course meets all of the requirements under the HSE and Awarding Organisations and is still a regulated course.

Combined Courses

This course may be combined with another first aid course which has the same or similar course curriculum.

Certification

All successful students will receive a regulated First Aid at Work Certificate, which outlines their achievement.

The HSE  states that the First Aid at Work qualification must be retaken before the expiry of 3 years from the date that the original qualification was achieved for the qualification to remain valid. However, if no more than one calendar month over this 3-year period, you may qualify to take the course again in two days rather than three. We call this our First Aid at Work (FAW) Requalification course. You must submit a copy of your original certificate to qualify.

Additionally, it’s important to note that all our first aid courses align fully with the UK and European Resuscitation Council Guidelines 2021, meeting the standards required by the HSE.

Additional Information

The HSE strongly recommends that all first aiders complete the First Aid Annual Refresher  course every year to maintain competence of first aiders. Consequently, this course is available through e-Learning.

However, please note that the classroom course requires participants to be at least 14 years old.

It may be the case you only require the Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), depending on your first aid needs assessment.

Most importantly, you MUST complete the online blended “Part 1” online prior to attending the classroom based “Part 2” of this course. You will receive your online login shortly after your booking.

Who should do this Course?

The “First Aid at Work” (FAW) course is essential for many workplaces. Employers should carry out a first aid needs assessment to make the necessary arrangements for first aiders. Employers typically require the First Aid at Work qualification when the risk or severity of injuries is higher, or when the number of people on site exceeds a certain capacity.

However, workplaces that engage in high-risk activities, such as machining or the use of abrasive wheels, may require additional training. For example, operating machinery that can cause amputations in unsafe conditions requires training in dealing with “life-threatening bleeding” (catastrophic bleeding).

For example, high-risk injuries specific to certain activities may require other additional training. Tailor the training to meet these specific needs whenever possible.

Additionally, we offer combined Paediatric First Aid courses, which may slightly extend the training time
