Introduction to the Regulated Paediatric First Aid – 2 Days Course

This TQUK Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) is a Regulated course and is a requirement in most circumstances under The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 along with Early Years Foundation Stage  (EYFS) Statutory Framework.

Why enrol on the Regulated Paediatric First Aid Course?

Having this vital skill set within schools and nurseries is crucial, it ensures that infants and children’s health, safety and welfare is accommodated. Additionally, it is a legal requirement in most circumstances, this should be highlighted during a first aid needs assessment. This assessment also determines the provisions necessary for the first aiders in the specific workplace.

Regulated Paediatric First Aid Overview

The duration for the Regulated Paediatric First Aid Course is 2 days. This course provides theoretical and practical training in First Aid techniques that are specific to infants aged 0 to 1, and children aged from 1 year old to 18 years of age. Above all, learners will become familiar with the role of the paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react appropriately to an emergency situation, such as a child or an infant who is unresponsive, has an airway obstruction or is suffering from shock.

Topics also included are wounds, fractures, dislocations, injuries to the head, neck, back, eyes, ears or nose, poisoning, bites or stings and electric shock.

The minimum contact hours for this qualification, excluding breaks should be a minimum of 12 hours, over a 2 day period.

Blended Learning

We do offer the Regulated Paediatric First Aid course as a blended learning option, with only one day of classroom training after completing the online blended “Part 1” modules. This reduces your classroom training time and costs with the online blended video-based course, which allows you to learn at your pace, saving progress as you go.

The online blended “Part 1” will need to be competed prior to attending the classroom “Part 2” of the course. You will receive a dedicated online login to complete the e-learning shorty after your booking has been made.

To clarify, this blended Paediatric First Aid course still meets all of the requirements under the HSE, EYFS Statutory Framework and Awarding Organisations, this course is still a Regulated qualification.

Combined Courses

This course may be combined with another first aid course which has the same or similar course curriculum.

Certification

All successful students will receive a Paediatric First Aid Certificate, which outlines their achievement.

The HSE  and the EYFS states that the paediatric first aiders must undergo the Paediatric First Aid course again within three years of achieving the original certification for the qualification to remain valid.

Additionally, it’s important to note that all our first aid courses align fully with the UK and European Resuscitation Council Guidelines 2021, meeting the standards required by the HSE.

Additional Information

The HSE strongly recommends that all first aiders complete the Paediatric First Aid Annual Refresher  course every year to maintain their competence. This course is available through our e-Learning.

However, please note that the classroom course requires participants to be at least 14 years old.

It may be the case you require the Emergency Paediatric First Aid , depending on your first aid needs assessment.

Most importantly, you MUST complete the online blended “Part 1” online prior to attending the classroom based “Part 2” of this course. You will receive your online login shortly after your booking.
