This entry level Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) course equips those working in a childcare setting with the essential skills to effectively manage first aid incidents. It covers key areas for infants and children such as the roles and responsibilities of a first aider, scene safety, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The full classroom course runs over one day and includes both theoretical and practical elements.
The EPFA course is a great for entry level but in most cases you will likely require the full two day Paediatric First Aid (PFA) qualification, which we also deliver.
By the end of the course, participants will have the knowledge and confidence to effectively respond to accidents, either in a childcare setting, workplace or at home.
The Emergency Paediatric 6 Hour Child/Infant First Aid Level 3 (VTQ) qualification aligns with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines, specifically under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981. It also meets the standards set by the Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines 2021 and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework.
Course Content
- The roles and responsibilities of a first aider
- Assessing an incident safely
- First aid for an infant or child who is unresponsive
- Identify when and demonstrate how to administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for infants and children
- Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Identify when and how to use the infant and child recovery positions
- First aid for an infant or child who is choking
- Treatment for a infant or child with external bleeding
- First aid for an infant or child in shock
- Treatment for other minor injuries (including burns and scalds)
